With regard to this most recent project, he sounds genuinely excited talking about how the process allows exclusive bonuses for the fans who take part. In the documentary shot during the process for This Is Thirteen, they express a measure relief cutting out a lot of the buffers that traditionally lie between the artist and their audiences. For Anvil, Lips says that this relatively new model is the current working model and really the only way to go that makes sense. Talking about the addition of Chris Robertson on bass, Lips conveys his excitement about being able to utilize Chris’s abiity to bring solid backing vocals back into the band’s sound. It’s a great example of some of the songs on the record that have stand-out vocal parts that haven’t been included in Anvil’s music since their early days, really since Dave Allison was in the fold. That’s always a highlight of the relaese cycle because he’s always animated and always seems to be in a great mood, interested to hear thoughts on the new material.Įssentially right off the bat we began discussing the new album and some interesting characteristics they’ve included within the songs, namely “Bitch in the Box.” It’s the band’s ode to the trusty GPS devices we’ve come to depend upon which opens the album. So, in addition to having another crushing collection of songs to add to their extensive catalog of albums, it also means that it’s time for another chat with the band’s co-founder Lips Kudlow. The relentless heavy metal juggernaut known as Anvil is now on their 17th full-length studio record.
